Wouldn't the government have to spend money preventing (or rather eliminating) black market drugs in order collect tax revenue...Perhaps a lot.
@anon: It would get some help from legitimate purveyors. Don't medallion holding taxi drivers raise a fuss when too many gypsy cabs encroach their territory?

The savings estimate is woefully low. Think of all the peaceful, honest people now rotting in prison, who could instead be productive members of society. What is the cost of the violent "justice" that necessarily goes with the black-market drug trade?
Don't forget the law enforcement savings from the reduction in drug-related violent crime. People don't kill each other [as often] over stuff they can buy at CVS or 7-Eleven.
